Hard to say . "Mother's Milk" brought melody and structure into the band, "BSSM" was pure energy and funk packed into basically evergreens, "By The Way" was so different and chord-wise very innovative and melodic but in the end I would have to say "Californication". The whole symbolism around the album (John back, the weird mastering which made the album sound extremely raw yet so powerful, John playing the right notes at the right time (cfr. Easily), etc.) gives me the chills everytime I listen to the bass pounding action on opener 'Around The World' . But as I said, very difficult 'cause a true fan -to me- can appreciate everything in its own context (yes, even One Hot Minute . It's Red Hot Chili Peppers, baby!

I love all their albums, but if I could only have one I would go with BSSM, just because of the feeling I get when I listen to it, reminds me of being a kid again. That cd was the reason I started playing guitar also. But like I said they're all awesome and One Hot Minute is great also. Sometimes I wish John would play some of those songs.

Really depends what mood I am in. This is a question I just can never answer. My favorites are BSSM and Californication. But, Freaky Styley is just so funky and raw, that I hate to leave it out! BSSM is a great album, but it lacks the intense energy found in Mothers Milk or Uplift. In overall musicianship, BSSM wins. In terms of energy, Mothers Milk and Uplift

In terms of energy, Mothers Milk and Uplift[/quotI] I totally agree with you. Depending on my mood, I'm feelin a different album. When I'm driving to work/school early in the morning or driving after a long night I seem to really love by the way/stadium. During the day I usually get into Californication or the older albums. That seems to be the general pattern I find haha.

Right now, during the winter I always listen to Californication. When I was growing up (late 90s/early 2000s) I would go skiing with my family a lot. Californication was the CD I always brought and for some reason, Parallel Universe just plays in my head when I ski or while I am in Stowe, VT. Just for some reason...I have been listening to Cali for a week now, amazing CD.

Yeah I hear ya, there's certain thing you do that remind you of a time when you were really into it. I remember listening to "The Will to Death" on the plane to Dominican Republic in 2004, so whenever I'm on a plane I think of it.
Funny how the brain works eh?
